Sweet Shot
Posted August 21st, 2007Sheila Drummond, a golfer for 15 years and blind for 26 years, scored a hole-in-one last Sunday (August 19). It is thought to be the first ace recorded by a blind golfer.
Playing in the rain with her husband, who is also her coach, Drummond hit a drive that flew over a water hazard and between sand traps before reaching the green and rolling into the hole. She accomplished the feat on the 144-yard, par-3 fourth hole at Mahoning Valley Country Club in Lehighton, Pennsylvania.
Drummond, who was blinded by diabetes, is a member of the board of directors of the United States Blind Golfers Association. The organization’s signature slogan is “You don’t have to see it to tee it.”
She is also a subscriber to Vantage Point magazine and the free lending library of Christian Record Services for the Blind. All reading services from CRSB are provided free of charge to those who are legally blind. for more information, visit www.christianrecord.org.
