Lowering Blood Sugar Levels

A federal study of some 10,000 diabetics found that lowering blood sugar increased risk of death, reports The New York Times. This was a surprising result and caused researchers to suspend part of the study.

This goes against what has been accepted as truth by the medical research world. There were 54 more deaths in the group of participants reducing their blood sugar levels to almost normal levels than in the less-controlled group. The reasons for increased death rate are currently not known.

Health professionals continue to believe that lowered blood sugar can protect against kidney disease, blindness, and amputations.
