World Glaucoma Day
Posted March 4th, 2008On World Glaucoma Day, March 6, 2008, people worldwide will raise awareness of a disease that causes irreversible damage to eyesight and which is increasing.
Glaucoma causes symptoms noticeable by those with the disease only after significant, irreversible damage has been done to the eyes.
Although treatment for glaucoma is usually effective in preventing further damage, most people do not know they have the disease. In developed countries, 50% of people with glaucoma are undiagnosed, and in developing countries, 95% are undiagnosed.
Glaucoma awareness, diagnosis, and treatment is crucial to preserve and save eyesight.
The earlier glaucoma is detected, and treatment is begun, the more sight can be saved.
