Radio Talking Book Services
Posted April 1st, 2008The International Association of Audio Information Services (IAAIS) is a group of organizations that provides access to printed information for individuals who cannot read conventional print because of blindness or other visual, physical, or learning disability.
One such organization is Radio Talking Book Services, of Omaha, Nebraska (http://www.rtbs.org/). Their broadcasts include state newspapers read live twice daily, and features such as Household Hints, Children’s Corner, Living Without Limits, and Health and Medicine.
A special radio receiver or a television with a Second Audio Program (SAP) option is required to hear the broadcasts of Radio Talking Book Network. Most recently manufactured TVs include the SAP option. Receivers are loaned free of charge to eligible listeners.
Besides these broadcasts, Radio Talking Book Services also offers live audio descriptions of symphony concerts, choral presentations, among other events, transmitted to portable receivers.
