Victory for the Feet

Posted July 10th, 2008

A recent New York Times article asserts that, in a lifetime the mileage an average person’s feet covers is “the equivalent of three times around the earth.”

The article recommends ways to keep feet happy:
• Shoe size matters. Throughout life, feet keep lengthening and flattening. If shoes hurt, it may be time for a size upgrade.
• Air feet out. To stave off fungus, make sure feet stay dry and aren’t always covered in socks and shoes. Also, use antifungal powder.
• Foot shape makes a difference. Both flat feet and high arches cause problems. For flat feet, use shoes or orthotics that support arch and heel. For high arches use soft padding and roomy shoes.
