National Federation of the Blind Declares October Meet the Blind Month
Posted October 2nd, 2008All through October, people who are blind will be recognized nationwide. Meet the Blind Month (MTBM) is being launched by the National Federation of the Blind in an effort to educate Americans firsthand about the lives and activities of the visually impaired.
According to the NFB, more than 700 state affiliates and NFB chapters plan to participate in MTBM. Events such as walk-a-thons, meet and greets, fundraising events, and picnics are being arranged so that Americans can realize “that we the blind are just like everyone else,” reports the NFB Web site. The NFB hopes to rectify misconceptions that have developed about people who are blind and their lifestyles, while at the same time providing enjoyment to local communities.
