Tax Time Made Bearable

Posted March 26th, 2009

When tax season comes, anxiety can increase for people who have age-related vision problems (such as glaucoma or macular degeneration) because many tax forms and receipts are written in small fonts.

To aid filers this year, the American Federation of the Blind has issued a Tax Guide which gives tips on how to make tax preparation easier and more efficient. According to the AFB Web site, these tips include doing things like:

• Visiting the IRS’s Website in order to download materials in large print or Braille formats.

• Requesting that your accountant prepare your taxes using large print forms so that it is easier for you to review them before mailing them to the IRS.

• Indicating on your tax form if you are legally blind. This may qualify you for a higher deduction.
