Digital Audio Books Now Available from Christian Record
Posted July 6th, 2011Greetings,
Christian Record Services for the Blind is in the midst of rolling out its new digital library. The first books on digital cartridges are ready to go. More digital books will be available every week in the months to come. Both new books and old favorites are showing up on the library shelves. They can be heading off the shelf to your mailbox soon, if you let us know you want to receive them.
As with books on audiocassette tape, the digital books are available on a 30-day loan basis. With a simple phone call, you can add another 30 days before you need to send the book back.
In the past, longer books required multiple mailings to complete the book. Now, regardless of the length of the book, it’ll fit on one digital cartridge. The sound quality and ease of use are also much improved.
If you have a digital player from the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS), all you have to do is let us know you want to receive digital library books from Christian Record. You can request specific books by phone from the online catalog, or simply sign up for categories of your choice and the computer will choose books for you.
If you do not yet have a digital player from the NLS, you can request one. Players are available on a permanent loan basis to all U.S. residents who are legally blind. There is no cost to you. You may contact the NLS, toll-free, at 1-888-NLS-READ (1-888-657-7323) or you may email: nls@loc.gov.
Please let us serve you with high quality Christian reading material in a much-improved format. You need simply to call Linda at 402-488-0981, ext. 227, or you may email her at services@christianrecord.org.
All the best to you,
Bert Williams, editorial director

Christian Record also has digital books available for clients to download. Like the books on digital cartridge, the books for download will only play on the digital players provided by the NLS (in the US). To see which titles are available in digital format, visit the website below and under Media, select NLS cartridge, then click “filter.” Christian Record’s catalog is at services.christianrecord.org/library/lookup.php.
