“You are the salt of the earth.” Matthew 5:13 (NIV)

Salt is about the most basic ingredient there is in food preservation and cooking. Not enough or too much is unacceptable. With just the right amount of salt, the best flavor possible is enhanced and maintained.

I think it needs to be the same in a Christian’s life. The Christian lifestyle is not about overwhelming people or being extremely subtle—it’s about being just the right presence so we can represent our Savior in just the right way.

Christ called us to be salt. And salt makes an obvious difference when used carefully. We’ll know if our behavior is good salt if—and only if—it brings glory and praise to God, not to ourselves!
